Donate to help

With your contribution, we are making the first water project possible, preserving not only the life of the Wixárika community, but also the heart of humanity.

Let's save the water, save a culture: support the Wixarika community

The Wixarikas, one of the world's oldest indigenous peoples, are facing an existential crisis. Climate change, water shortages, and poor infrastructure threaten their livelihoods, forcing many to abandon their communities. Their culture—a valuable legacy for humanity—is in danger of disappearing if we do not act now.

But there is hope!

With your support, we can help the Wixárikas remain on their land, preserve their traditions, and strengthen their communities, thereby protecting the roots of our humanity.

The importance of water

For the Wixárika culture, water is life and sacred. Without it, there are no crops, no corn—the food that sustains their bodies and spirits. Today, water scarcity is forcing many families to migrate and abandon their villages, thereby weakening their culture and community. A reliable water supply is essential for the Wixárikas to cultivate, feed themselves, and remain in their territory.

Who are we?

Yurienaka Parewiwame is the first non-profit Civil Association based on Steward-Ownership principles, created and managed by the Wixárikas themselves in service to their community. Thanks to this legal model, the organization is protected from personal interests and dedicated exclusively to serving the community and future generations. Our purpose is clear: that all profits are reinvested in life, culture, and Mother Earth.

Why your support is crucial

Indigenous peoples such as the Wixárikas are the roots of our humanity. Their culture, spirituality, and way of living in harmony with nature remind us of what it means to be truly human. With your support, we help preserve not only an indigenous community, but also a mirror of our own humanity, a source of wisdom that the world needs now more than ever.

Support the dam project

In the community of San Andrés Cohamiata, the government built a dam years ago to alleviate water shortages. However, due to corruption and poor execution, the system never worked. Meanwhile, women walk up to four hours a day to fill jugs at a single shared tap, and if it breaks down, they must wait weeks or travel even greater distances.

Our first infrastructure project is to repair and activate this dam, restoring drinking water to the entire community. With your donation, we will make water flow again, restoring dignity, autonomy, and hope to the Wixárika families.
